CLEVELAND, OHIO, February 15, 2012 – Nextant Aerospace, maker of the 400XT, the world’s only FAA certified remanufactured business jet, today announced that it has named Drew Thwaits as director of sales, Northeast region, based in Boston, Massachusetts. The move comes in response to growing interest in the region in the 400XT aircraft, which has an extended range that enables direct, nonstop flights from the Northeast to locations as distant as Central America, the Caribbean and much of the Western United States.
Most recently Chief Pilot at Switchback Argentina, LLC, Thwaits is an experienced pilot with more than 6,000 hours of flight time in more than 75 different aircraft models. He has an Airline Transport Rating and has received type ratings in the CJ3, CJ4 and 400XP, giving him direct experience in relevant aircraft and a unique perspective on the competitive marketplace.
“With his thousands of hours as a pilot, especially in aircraft types in the same class as the 400XT, Drew Thwaits brings a depth of experience and expertise that allows him to speak with significant credibility,” said Jay Heublein, vice president, sales and marketing for Nextant Aerospace. “Given how well the 400XT has been received in the marketplace, especially in the Northeastern U.S., Drew will be an important addition to our sales team, enabling us to respond to the tremendous interest we are receiving for this one-of-a- kind aircraft.”
Thwaits holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Colorado College. He has participated as a pilot for Special Olympics Airlift and is involved with a number of professional organizations, including the Business Air Professionals of New England.
The Nextant 400XT, which received full Federal Aviation Administration certification in 2011 after a three-year development and flight testing process, saw its first deliveries recently and is available at a cost of about half that of competing models.
The 400XT process employs a remanufactured airframe from the Beechjet 400A/XP aircraft, enhanced with new, state-of-the-art technology including the Williams FJ44-3AP turbofan engine, the Rockwell Collins Pro Line 21™ integrated avionics suite, advanced electronics and completely rebuilt interiors. The remanufacturing process takes all life-limited components to zero-time status, either through replacement or complete overhaul, which effectively makes the 400XT a new plane in all material aspects even before the addition of advanced technology. The 400XT is considered to be a new type in Aircraft Bluebook. Further options include additional avionics features, cabin entertainment including high-speed wireless internet and an optional seating configuration that allows for the most leg room of any light jet in production without sacrificing seating capacity.
The resulting aircraft supports a range of 2,005 nautical miles with four passengers and NBAA IFR Reserves, a 50 percent increase over the 400XP, with a remarkable 32 percent reduction in operating costs. Other performance improvements include a cruising speed of 460 nautical miles per hour; fuel efficiency improvements of 25-30 percent, depending on the length of the flight segment and noise compliance that exceeds Stage IV requirements. A number of orders have been received, including a 40-plane order from Flight Options LLC, the second-largest company in the private jet travel business.
